NEW CAMPUS BRINGS NEW OPPORTUNITIES

Victor Valley College has officially embarked on the construction of a new campus for only the second time its 50-year history. The new center in northern Apple Valley will provide specialized facilities for training public safety personnel: firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other first responders.

“Fire, police, and emergency medical personnel work together every day, but they don’t get much time to train together,” VVC Fire Technology Chair Tom Turner said.

In this facility, they will. The nine-acre complex will feature 41,000 square feet of classroom and office space, an indoor shooting range, a five-story fire training tower, and two acres of training grounds outfitted with key fire and emergency training equipment.

The new Public Safety Training Center will not only teach students how to save lives, but will also help save the environment. The project is anticipated to receive LEED Gold certification for its eco-friendly design.
VVC had a lot of help getting to this point. Land for the center was donated by Wal-Mart to the Apple Valley Fire Protection District, who dedicated it to the college. Voters within the district approved Measure JJ to provide the funding for construction. The VVC Foundation actively promoted the passage of the bond measure. Without any one of these partners, the site would continue to be a dusty piece of desert land waiting for a purpose.

Today, however, the dreams of many have been planted with ceremonial gold ground-breaking shovels for what will be a life changing center of excellence preparing the heroes of tomorrow.

Letter from the President
As a graduate of Victor Valley College and the current president of its elected Governing Board, I invite you to get involved with your alma mater. We want to stay connected with you.

I believe you will find supporting Victor Valley College very rewarding and, like many of you, I am thankful for the opportunities my education has afforded me. I was a mother at age 16 and dropped out of high school. I turned to VVC for a second chance. The support I received at our college helped me to succeed in earning an associate’s degree and gave me the confidence I needed to continue my education. I went on to earn both a bachelor’s degree from Azusa Pacific University and then a master’s degree from Pepperdine University.

My education and determination made it possible for me to forge a very successful career, and it started right here at Victor Valley College. I have chosen to give back by serving as a trustee, and this experience has made me even more aware of how much our college needs the community's support.

No matter how small or large, I’m sure that VVC has played a role in who you are today and the success you’ve achieved. Please join me in remembering the roots of that success and finding a way to give back. It’s our turn to pay it forward.

Sincerely,
Angela Valles
President
Victor Valley College Board of Trustees
