Cypress College will honor former Dodger Manager Tommy Lasorda as its 2010 Americana Man of Year. Lasorda will be recognized by the College on Saturday, February 20, 2010, in the Grand Ballroom of the Disneyland Hotel. The Disneyland Resort has already committed $25,000 to the event as Title Sponsor.
The Americana Awards—Cypress College’s signature event and one of Orange County’s premier evenings—recognizes extraordinary individuals whose lives reflect a passionate dedication to helping others. As Americana Man of the Year, Lasorda joins the likes of Gene Autry, Carl Karcher, Marion Knott, J.D. Morgan, Mark Chapin Johnson, and Bishop Jaime Soto—just a few of those previously honored by Cypress College.
Last year the College honored Jack Scott, Chancellor of the California Community College system and former Cypress College President, along with Jan Domene, National President of the PTA.
Also honored at Americana are Citizens of the Year from the cities of Seal Beach, Stanton, Los Alamitos, La Palma, Garden Grove, Cypress, Buena Park, and Anaheim.
